These are before and after photos of a large hawthorn tree on plot 74b. This is part our ongoing effort to find more environmentally friendly ways to deal with green tree and bush waste than burning. First of all, four of the branches were cut to length and driven into the ground to create the corner posts. Then remaining branches were cut to suitable lengths and positioned around the sides in such a way that the smaller, shredded twigs and leaves would be contained in a relatively small footprint. Consequently we have created a different kind of compost bin that will provide nutrient in the future, at no cost - just a few hours of commitment. If we can encourage plot holders to adopt this approach to green waste it will greatly benefit everybody. Please let a Committee member know if you have a problem with a larger tree or shrub where we might be able to help with the shredding.
