Working Party Report - 7th September 2014
Sunday morning saw a sturdy band of willing volunteers turn up on site to address some clearing and tidying of the green and waste sites. About 20 members worked hard to clear up the green site, which has attracted more combustable materials than had been anticipated. The first bay has now been filled to capacity and has been sealed to allow the rotting down process to continue. The second bay has been better organised and should have sufficient capacity to take us to the end of this current growing season.
The waste site is still being used excessively and landfill materials will need to be taken off site in due course. However we now have a better contained area and signs have been displayed to discourage tipping and request that members take any rubbish off site with them, for disposal at home. A welcome supply of tea, coffee, home-made cake and biscuits were provided by Nicola to refresh and sustain the working party during the morning. We are in the process of securing a no-cost delivery of a large number of pallets and, in due course, the objective will be for every plot to have its own composting 3-bay frame (made of 7 pallets), so that we can minimise the use of the communal areas. Owing to the successful turnout, it is expected that all future working parties will take place on a Sunday morning (rather than on Saturdays) - details of the next one will be posted in due course. Once again, huge thanks to those that attended today's session. |
